BP Gas Discount: earnify Gives 5¢ a Gallon, 10¢ With Prime

bp's earnify program is free, and it takes 5¢ off every gallon at bp and Amoco stations. bp's FAQ puts it in one line: "All earnify members receive 5 cents off per gallon every time!"

Link an Amazon Prime account and it becomes 10¢ a gallon. If you already pay for Prime, that is the single easiest doubling of a fuel discount available anywhere.

How to sign up

Free. bp's FAQ answers it directly: "No, it is free join earnify." Register in the earnify app. Your linked mobile number becomes your Loyalty ID for earning and redeeming at the pump.

The 5¢ applies when you pay with the earnify app, swipe a linked payment card, or enter your loyalty ID at the pump. New members get 250 bonus points on registration and double points for the first 90 days.

One thing the app is required for: you can earn points by entering your loyalty ID at the pin pad, but bp says you must use the earnify app to select and redeem rewards.

How to stack it

bp documents its stacks better than most chains do.

Amazon Prime: +5¢, and it combines with everything else. bp states that "earnify members receive an everyday 5¢ per gallon discount, and Prime members receive an additional 5¢ per gallon, for a combined savings of 10¢ per gallon" at bp, Amoco, and participating ampm and Thorntons locations. bp explicitly confirms that "Prime fuel savings can be combined with other eligible earnify rewards and promotions." If your Prime lapses, the everyday 5¢ continues.

Set it up at amazon.com/saveonfuel. Non-members are prompted to create a free earnify account as part of the linking flow.

The bp rewards Visa: 15¢, and it stacks with the loyalty discount. Cardholders "continue to enjoy 15¢ off every gallon," and when the card is linked, "the fuel purchase will qualify for both the bp rewards Visa reward and the bp reward." bp adds a condition: "To qualify for both rewards, you must always swipe your bp rewards Visa."

Bank and credit-union rewards. bp publishes that eligible payment cards can be swiped at the pump and, when prompted, redeemed "for $0.50 off per gallon."

Nothing is published about cashback apps.

The points layer

On top of the cents-off: 1 point per $1 of fuel spend, 2 points per $1 on convenience purchases. 200 points equals $2 in convenience savings, or an extra 5¢ a gallon.

Watch-outs

Points expire after 90 days of no interaction with earnify. That is a short leash compared with most chains.

Some payment types are excluded. earnify does not accept fleet cards, gift cards or pre-paid debit cards.

Price Match is a separate thing. bp states its Price Match program "is not currently part of earnify."

Paying in the app costs you the cash price. This is the detail most people miss, and bp publishes it: "When using earnify to purchase fuel, you will always be charged the stated credit card price. To receive any exception prices (debit card pricing or discounts for specific credit card brands) that are locally offered by select bp stations, you can use your linked payment card to receive special pricing and qualify for earnify." At a station with a cash/credit price split, swipe your linked card rather than paying inside the app.

No gallon cap on the 5¢ was published on the pages we checked.

Member price vs. the sign price

bp gives the clearest published answer of any chain we cover. Asked "What price will I pay for my fuel?", bp answers: "The price will be the same as if you were to pay at the pump or in the convenience store. Our fuel prices are displayed on the entrance to the site and at all of our pumps." One sign, one price, discount applied after.
