Kroger Fuel Points: How the Gas Discount Works

A free Kroger account earns Fuel Points on your groceries, and every 100 points takes 10¢ off a gallon. The ceiling is $1.00 a gallon on up to 35 gallons in one transaction.

That is a big ceiling, and it is reachable, because points come from ordinary grocery spending rather than from buying gas. The cost is attention: the points expire faster than most people expect.

How to sign up

Free. Get a Kroger Plus card in a store, or create a digital account at kroger.com or in the Kroger app. At the pump, identify yourself with the card, your Alt ID, or the app before you start fueling.

The account works across the whole Kroger family of brands — roughly two dozen banners in 35 states and Washington, DC. Points earned under one banner spend at another.

How to stack it

The honest answer is that Kroger's fuel benefit does not stack so much as travel. Points earned at any Kroger Family Store can be spent at any participating Kroger Family Fuel Center, or at a partner station.

Partner stations vary by region and may include Shell, bp, Amoco and Turkey Hill, among local partners. There is one rule worth knowing: at a partner station the system spends your oldest points first, while at a Kroger Family Fuel Center you can choose which month's balance to spend. If you are sitting on points from two different months, redeem at a Kroger pump.

Fuel and groceries draw on the same balance. Since a June 2026 announcement, 100 points can instead take $1 off groceries, up to $10 a day. That is an alternative to the fuel discount, not an addition to it.

We could not confirm on a Kroger page whether a Kroger-branded card or a cashback app adds anything at the pump, so no figure is given here.

Watch-outs

Points expire at the end of the month after you earn them. Kroger's own example: points earned in May expire on June 30. That is a short window, and it is the single most common way people lose fuel points.

35 gallons is the cap. At the full $1.00 a gallon, 35 gallons is $35 off one fill. Most cars cannot take 35 gallons, so the practical ceiling for a car is closer to $15.

Offers vary by geography. The redemption ladder is national, but which partner stations honor points, and which bonus-point promotions run, depends on where you shop.

We have left some numbers out on purpose. How many points a dollar of groceries earns, and the size of the gift-card and pharmacy bonus multipliers, are not stated on the Kroger pages we checked (fuel FAQ, points program). Rather than guess, we have omitted them.
