Chevron & Texaco Rewards: The Points Are Small, the Stack Is Big

Chevron Texaco Rewards is free and earns 5 points per gallon, but it takes 10 points to make a single cent. Buying gas alone therefore earns about half a cent a gallon — the weakest headline rate of any major chain we cover.
The value at Chevron is somewhere else entirely. Chevron publishes an explicit permission to stack grocery fuel points, the Techron Advantage card and local site programs on top, up to $1.00 a gallon on 25 gallons. Chevron is a good place to spend rewards you earned elsewhere.
How the points convert
The ladder in Chevron's own loyalty terms: 50 points for 5¢ a gallon, 100 for 10¢, 250 for 25¢, 500 for 50¢, extending on Chevron's Gas Rewards sheet to 1,000 points for $1.00 a gallon. That is a steady 10 points per cent.
Earning is 5 points per gallon of branded Chevron or Texaco fuel. In-store earning varies by offer.
How to sign up
Free. The terms state "There is no purchase required to become a member." Join through the Chevron or Texaco app, the website, or an in-store kiosk. A mobile number and email are required, and the phone number becomes the Loyalty ID you enter at the pump.
To redeem: "Enter your Loyalty ID when making a fuel purchase at a participating Chevron or Texaco station, or initiate a fuel purchase using the App."
There is a welcome offer on the program homepage worth more than a year of ordinary earning: 1,000 points for completing your profile, plus $1 a gallon off up to 5 fill-ups, valid for 90 days after you complete the account. It is a promotion and it may have changed, so confirm before you count on it.
How to stack it
Chevron publishes an unusually explicit permission:
"The combining of Rewards with available grocery gas rewards under the Albertsons for U Points Program, fuel discounts with the Techron Advantage Cards, and/or participating local site programs is permissible, up to the maximums allowed under each program."
So four things combine: your Chevron loyalty reward, Albertsons and Safeway grocery fuel points, the Techron Advantage card discount, and site-level local programs. Each is subject to its own ceiling, with an overall $1.00 a gallon maximum and a $0.01 a gallon price floor.
The grocery stack runs one direction. Chevron's station-support page confirms grocery Gas Rewards can be combined here, but rewards earned in Chevron Texaco Rewards cannot be redeemed at Safeway fuel stations. Bring grocery points to Chevron, not Chevron points to the grocery pump. Note also that Safeway and Albertsons cap partner-station redemption at 20¢ a gallon, so the $1.00 Chevron ceiling is reached by combining sources, not by one big grocery redemption.
Nothing is published about cashback apps.
Watch-outs
Ninety days of inactivity wipes everything. "Your points and any related rewards will expire after ninety (90) days of inactivity." At half a cent a gallon of earning, a lapsed account is a long way back.

The price never goes below a penny. The maximum reward is $1 a gallon, "provided that in no event will the final fuel price be less than $0.01 per gallon."
