RaceTrac Gas Discount: Rewards, VIP and the Rewards + Debit Card

RaceTrac Rewards is free and earns points, but RaceTrac publishes no points-to-cents conversion for fuel. The per-gallon savings it does publish come from two add-ons: Rewards VIP at $2.49 a month, which takes 10¢ off your first 40 gallons each month and 3¢ after that, and the Rewards + Debit Card, which takes 7¢ a gallon once you link it to a checking account.

So RaceTrac is the rare chain where the free tier is not the fuel tier. The free program earns points for in-store items; the gas savings sit behind a subscription or a bank link.

Is VIP worth $2.49 a month?

Do the arithmetic before subscribing. Forty gallons at 10¢ is $4.00. Subtract the $2.49 and you are $1.51 ahead, before the 3¢ on anything past 40 gallons.

You need to buy about 25 gallons a month at RaceTrac just to break even. Below that, VIP costs you money. Above 40 gallons a month it keeps paying, but only at 3¢ a gallon.

How to sign up

Free Rewards: four routes — the RaceTrac app, web sign-up, texting JOIN to 24746, or entering your phone number at the pump or checkout. Quick enrollment gives limited access; you have to verify the phone number by replying Y to the SMS within 30 days, and full benefits need the app or online sign-up. Both routes are free.

VIP: a $2.49-a-month add-on bought from the profile or VIP tab once you have a free Rewards account. Billing is automatic and you can cancel any time. Pay with Visa, Amex, Mastercard or Discover — not with a RaceTrac gift card.

Rewards + Debit Card: request it online. It arrives already linked to your Rewards account, and you link your bank to switch on the 7¢.

How to stack it

VIP stacks with point earning. RaceTrac publishes this directly: "VIP is an add-on program that allows you to save while you earn. Fuel purchases still generate 1 point per gallon as part of your RaceTrac Rewards benefits."

Promotional fuel offers run separately. One published example: a Monster multi-buy giving 25¢ a gallon off a next fill-up with Rewards, valid 8/5/26 to 11/3/26, redeem by 11/30/26, one offer per transaction, one redemption a day, not valid in truck lanes.

Do not assume VIP and the debit card add up. CSP Daily News described a combined "Fuel Savings Trio" worth 27¢ a gallon in its 2026 coverage, but RaceTrac's own Fuel Savings Trio page now redirects to the general fuel page, and no current RaceTrac page says the VIP 10¢ and the card's 7¢ combine. One trade outlet, no longer confirmable at source.

Watch-outs

Points expire in a year, oldest first.

VIP does not work at the extended diesel canopy. RaceTrac publishes this carve-out explicitly. You still earn points there.

VIP is not valid at RaceWay. RaceWay is an affiliated but separate chain, and neither Rewards nor VIP applies there.

Free-tier earning: 4 points per $1 on qualifying products and 1 point per gallon on all fuel grades. Alcohol, tobacco, lottery, money orders and gift cards are excluded. Points redeem in-app for free in-store items; the marketing also mentions "fuel savings," but with no published conversion we are not putting a number on it.

Member price vs. the sign price

Same sign for everyone. Discounts apply to your transaction once you scan the Rewards barcode, swipe the card, or enter your phone number before pumping.
