Sam's Club Gas: Member Prices and the 5¢ Fuel Discount

Sam's Club has no points program for gas. What you are buying with a membership is access to member-only fuel prices, plus a published 5¢ a gallon member discount at its fuel stations. Club membership is $60 a year and Plus is $120.

Sam's is unusual among gas chains in saying openly that members pay a price non-members do not get. Most chains post one price and take the discount off afterward. Sam's advertises "Member Only Fuel Prices" as a benefit of both tiers.

How to sign up

Join online at samsclub.com/join or at a club. Club is $60 a year, Plus is $120.

Promotional pricing, with a date on it. Sam's publishes first-year pricing of $25 for Club and $55 for Plus for the window July 6 to September 30, 2026. That window closes very soon. If you are reading this in October or later, expect the regular $60 and $120.

How to stack it

Two layers combine here, and they work differently.

The pump price is what your membership buys. Sam's help content states a 5¢ discount at fuel stations for Members, and names Walmart+ users alongside Members as eligible for it.

The card rewards sit on top and follow you off the property. Sam's states that Plus members earn 5% back in Sam's Cash when they buy gas anywhere with their Sam's Club Mastercard — not just at a Sam's fuel center. For a driver who fills up mostly somewhere else, that is the more valuable half.

Sam's has published nothing about cashback apps. Treat it as unknown.

Watch-outs

New Jersey gets no member fuel discount. Sam's states that "New Jersey does not allow the discounting of fuel for Membership," so NJ clubs do not apply it.

We are not publishing a Plus-versus-Club cents figure. You will see claims that Plus members get an extra 5¢ a gallon on top of the member price. No Sam's Club page we checked confirms that, so the number is left out rather than guessed at.

Do the membership math before you join for the gas. At 5¢ a gallon, a $60 membership needs 1,200 gallons to break even on the discount alone — far more than most drivers buy in a year. The case for joining rests on the member price itself plus everything else in the club, not on the 5¢. The warehouse club break-even calculator will take your own numbers.

Member price vs. the sign price

This is the clearest member-price claim of any chain we cover. Sam's advertises member-only fuel prices on its own join page, and fuel is membership-gated, so the price members pay is genuinely not available to the public.
